We distribute drawstring bags filled with water, food, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, an article of clothing and a Resource Card.
The Resource Card contains a list of many existing community resources, including where to find a meal, a safe place to sleep, who will offer medical or dental care, and more.
The magic of this Project is teaching people that no matter how big or small they are, everyone can help someone and make a positive change in their community.
Ben Heck founded the Tzedakah Project initially as a Bar Mitzvah charity project.
Having seen such need with his own eyes, and feeling the sense of fulfillment after helping, Ben felt compelled to continue this Project for as long as possible.
Kitty Heck has always been a proponent of bringing supplies to people in need, and played a key role in guiding Ben through the creation process.
Kitty is most proud of Ben's creation of the Resource Card. Instead of creating temporary comfort, this Card aims to connect people in need with more permanent resources.
Ken Heck has always modeled charity to his children. Ken helped design this Project to teach Ben about empathy and charity.
Ben has gone further than anyone expected, filing the 501(c)3 paperwork personally, and maintaining it even through High School.
